An upright, strong, and hardy timber bamboo. New shoot with red margin, hence the name rubro (red) marginata (margin). Because of its vigorous growth, P. rubromarginata has been the darling of the scientific community; a study conducted in the southeastern United States found P. rubromarginata to be the species best suited for paper production, and another conducted in Puyallup, Washington named it the most prolific shooter. Its height and flexibility make it an exceptional windbreak.
