Jim is taking a few minutes to polish up the canes on our Kimmei Vivax. A little grove  maintenance can go a long way to make a grove look attractive and under control.

Phyllostachys vivax
'Huangwenzhu Inversa'
Common Name:
Kimmei Vivax

Maximum Height: 45+ feet  (possibly 60 feet in the right conditions).  Average height in most conditions: 35 to 40 feet
Diameter: 3-5 inches
Hardiness: -5 F
USDA Zone recommended 6

This newest form of vivax is colored like the Castillon form of bambusoides. Yellow culms with a green sulcus. It is more vigorous and hardier than Castillon. It is going to be one of the most sought after forms due to the brilliant contrast between the yellow culms and the dark green leaves and sulcus, and its hardiness. This form sometimes has extra green stripes on the culms as seen below, making it even more spectacular.  It is capable of producing 3" to 4" diameter culms in a relatively small area (10' x 10')
