This high elevation Chinese bamboo has very long internodes and thick culms. The culms are very erect and also very tolerant of wind, making this bamboo an excellent wind break. The leaves are thick, long, and broad. The culm sheaths are somewhat persistent, but fall off eventually. Bashania fargesii is a vigorous runner, even in heavy Oregon clay soil. We consider it to have one of the fastest spreading rhizomes of any bamboo (be careful where you plant it!). Excellent for erosion control.
