Grown in Anhui, Zhejiang Province, China for its delicious shoots, this bamboo has straight, strong culms that have a heavy coating of wax at sheath fall. The new shoots are a very attractive reddish-brown. It is one of the hardier small Phyllostachys that grows to 20 feet in almost any climate. Similar in size and growth habit to P. bissetii.
