We think this bamboo is a Semiarundinaria but are unsure of the species. In the fall, the culms that are exposed to the sun turn a beautiful reddish-maroon color, especially after a frost. For us, it has better color than Semiarundinaria fastuosa. It is very upright, as can be seen in the first picture. To achieve optimum color, it should be planted where it will receive the most intense sun on the culms from a south or west exposure.
