This shorter Semiarundinaria is a very useful bamboo when a fast spreading hedge is desired with a maximum height of less than 20 feet. Most Phyllostachys and other Semiarundinaria routinely grow over 20 feet tall. Occasionally it has a condensed node near the base of the cane. It can handle a wide range of light levels, from almost full shade to full sun.
